Marcelle Aleid grew up in the kitchen alongside her mother in her hometown of Damascus, Syria. Everything she knows about hospitality, she learned from her family - in their house, she was the sous chef and she was inspired by seeing how guests reacted to her mother’s home-cooked meals. Her career has brought her around the world; Marcelle went on to study marketing and strategic management from the University of Cambridge, and later became a marketing manager for the Film Conference in Abu Dhabi. Though she has always been fascinated by the business of films, food always remained a true love. Today, Chef Marcelle lives in Toronto and the chef and owner of Zezafoun. When guests call the restaurants, they will often ask, “what did mom cook today?”, and that speaks to the service of this establishment. Zezafoun is a true passion and she welcomes each guest as if it were her own home, just as her family did. She invites Torontonians to be adventurous - she looks forward to introducing you to traditional Syrian cuisine.
